Preston CORBITT811,813,902,903,904,905 was born on 29 May 1923 in Atkinson, Georgia, USA.811,813,902,905,906 He lived in Harmony Grove, Atkinson, Georgia in 1930.813,902 Arrival: New York, New York on 29 Jun 1945.903 Arrival: Liverpool, England on 10 Nov 1946.906 He died in 1982 in Torbay, Devonshire, England.905 Departure: New York, United States.906 He was also known as Freston Connett.906

The first record I found on Preston, outside of the census of 1930, was his marriage record in England.

Preston married Sylvia P Skinner in the 3rd quarter (July, August, Sept) of 1944. The English kept all of their vital records by quarter instead of month and day like we do.

Sylvia was born in the 3rd quarter of 1925, in Newton Abbot, Devon Co, England. Her parents were Benjamin Skinner and Vera Gillard.

In the 1st quarter of 1945, Preston and Sylvia had a son, Preston L Corbitt, born in Newton Abbot.

On June 29, 1945 Preston sailed on the Queen Elizabeth to New York, presumably to prepare a home for his new son and bride in Georgia.

On February 10, 1946, Sylvia and Preston L, age 10 months, arrived in New York harbor on the Queen Mary. They are listed on the manifest as dependents of Preston Corbitt, USNR, of Blackshear, Georgia.

On October 27,1946 an article appeared in "The Stars and Stripes" newspaper. (see copy on the Corbitt biography page) This article states that the family would be returning to England next month.

Sure enough, on November 10, 1946, Preston, Sylvia and Preston L, arrived in Liverpool, England aboard the ship "Cunard White Star."

The family moved back to Newton Abbot in Devon County. Two more children were born there. Sheridan L Corbitt was born in the 3rd quarter of 1947. Maxine L Corbitt was born in the 3rd quarter of 1950.
Parents: Joseph Lafayette CORBITT and Minnie Beatrice "Atris" CORBITT.
