BEAUFORT - Albert Leon "Joe" Carter Jr., 73, an insurance industry worker, died Tuesday in a Miami hospital. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Baptist Church of Beaufort. Burial, directed by Anderson Funeral Home, will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Carter was born in Waycross, Ga., a son of Albert L. Carter and Carrie Knowles Carter. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He received the Purple Heart and served in the honor guard for Gen. George Patton's funeral. He was an active member and deacon of the Baptist Church of Beaufort. Surviving are his wife, Euzelia "Zee" Swofford Carter; his mother of Hollywood, Fla.; and two sisters, Juanita Page of Beaufort and Olivia Houston of Hollywood, Fla.
